June is Cataract Awareness Month - cataracts are the leading cause of blindness in the world, but fortunately here in San Antonio, TX we have great surgical options to treat cataracts and REVERSE the vision loss caused by them! Dr. Racoma's eye examinations will detect any start of cataracts, let you know what treatment options exist, and will see you through the process! Sometimes it's as simple as a little tweak to your prescription!

What it takes to make a GREAT pair of glasses …
I hear all too often from patients new to my office that they’ve never enjoyed wearing glasses before. They “just don’t like wearing glasses,” or they “can never find a pair they like,” or “I see better out of my contact lenses.” And yes, I’d have to agree that without a properly fit frame and a well-made pair of prescription lenses that this would be the case for most people out there!
Should you be worried about Blue Light? (And what is “blue light”?)
The average adult spends 9 hours a day on digital devices and our children are not far behind. Children between the ages of eight and 18 spend just under 8 hours a day with digital media. When the use of more than one digital device at a time is considered, they spend more than 10 ½ hours a day with digital technologies!!! Time on digital devices exposes our eyes to higher levels of “blue light,” leading to digital eye strain, sleep problems, blurred vision, headaches, and neck and shoulder pain.
UV protection and your eyes … why it’s a smart choice, especially living in San Antonio!
Like most San Antonians I love our Winters, I love our Springs, I love our Falls, heck, I even love our Summers! And what do I love about our seasons?? Sunshine, sunshine, and more sunshine! Ok, so we did get about 2 inches of snowfall this past December, but that was the first accumulation in over 30 years (and wasn’t it just a little bit of fun playing outside and building a Snowman with our kids?)But in all seriousness, living in San Antonio puts us at risk for higher UV exposure compared to other more northern parts of the US.
Why not all eye exams are created equal? (Or, why you should schedule your next appointment with Dr. Racoma)
Most people unfortunately do not realize that not all eye exams are created equal. “Well wait a minute, how can that be? I was told I had 20/20 vision in my new prescription, that’s all that matters, right???” Or how about, “Well, I paid extra for that photo that replaced dilation, so it must have been a good eye exam!”
